About Carreón Consulting

Specializing in overcoming language and cultural barriers, Carreón Consulting meets clients where they are to enhance equity, diversity, and inclusion through innovative and sustainable language access solutions.

Experience and Impact

Carreón Consulting LLC, founded by María Carreón Ayers, is a consultancy firm leveraging over 20 years of strategic planning, policy development, and implementation expertise in culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS). As a former public servant, María created the first Language Services Program at the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment and expanded access to over-the-phone interpretation services across Colorado through the Department of Personnel & Administration’s National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) agreement. María’s work as a Bridging the Gap certified interpreter keeps her close to the community and helps inform all areas of her work.

Collaborative Partnership

Collaborating closely with clients and partners, Carreón Consulting has conducted community listening sessions with diverse groups all around the state, in both English and Spanish, to discuss challenges and ideas to critical issues impacting communities. The firm specializes in federal language access requirements and the National CLAS Standards, providing expert consultation, training, and technical assistance to a range of agencies, including the Behavioral Health Administration, Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center, Lake County Department of Human Services, University of Colorado’s Kempe Center, and the New York Immigration Coalition, as well as Colorado’s Department of Early Childhood and Department of Public Health and Environment.

Language shapes our understanding, our cultural context and our world view. It is the chief tool we use to communicate and is an essential part of our day-to-day lives.

Founder’s Story

María describes herself as a reluctant entrepreneur, compelled by necessity—the proverbial mother of invention. Finding the “traditional” workplace incompatible with a healthy work-life balance, she sought a better way to manage her responsibilities as a mom and working professional. María chose to forge her own path, doing what she loves: connecting people across languages and cultures. In her work, she focuses on enhancing organizational capacity and raising individual awareness, aiming to foster effective communication that bridges cultural and linguistic divides. As a wife and mom of three, she loves laughing with her kids, planning family trips, and enjoying big meals with extended family. She is grateful for her time with friends and cozy movie nights with her husband.
María has been a trusted consultant and advisor of our work with the CLAS standards and a willing supporter of our recent efforts and focus on Equity in Adams County. Her ability to intentionally individualize support and guidance is exceptional. She listens to organizational and individual needs before developing objectives which allows for a deeper partnership to be developed and nurtured. We have greatly benefited from working with María and so have our partners.
